In his usual fashion, President Bush wasted no time today making a scene. It was bad enough last night during the opening ceremonies that he looked bored, scratching himself and looking at his watch. Today he wasted no time cuddling up to the US Beach Volleyball team of Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh. Eyes up and hands off Mister President! I mean really ... who let him out of the little White House unattended!
who has been a great roommate for almost six years and an even better friend for almost nine:
Through all the years of fun and joy
There wasn’t one moment I didn’t
enjoy.
Being drunk and messy at parties and bars
Will provide abundant material for
our future memoirs.
Long nights on the sofa, with our laptops in tow
Watching
reruns of Dallas and shows on Bravo.
You are now LA bound to start life anew
Yet I find
it so hard to bid you adieu.
Even though my heart hurts to see you go,
My mind
knows our friendship will continue to grow.
Friendships like ours are a rare gift indeed
So to
your best interests my heart must concede.
But no goodbyes or farewells from me will be said
A
blessing from my ancestors will be given instead:
An Old Irish Blessing
May the road rise up
to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your
fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.
So there I was ... all proud of myself. I had found four copies of Vogue Bambini to send back to my family in Virginia. I call my mom ... and seven more copies are needed! :-( Well, luckily during the original search I discovered that the Borders Books at the Westfield San Francisco Center also carries the magazine, but was still displaying the prior issue.
After several days of calling, this morning's call garnered success. That success came in the form of not three or four, but all seven copies!!! WOO HOO!
So lets recap ... for future reference ... the two best places in San Francisco to get Vogue Bambini is first Fog City News at First and Market Streets - they had the magazine about two weeks into the issue date - plus you can get a great chocolate fix at the same time. Then Borders Books at the Westfield San Francisco Center on Market Street. However they did not get it till several days after Fog City.
Well I did it!! On a tip that I got from my friend Lisa, I called up Fog City News and they had four copies of the July/August 2008 issue that my niece is in. My mother wanted all four! They have a great selection of international magazines and lots of chocolate! Thankfully I was able to avoid temptation and get out of there with just the magazines. So here it is ... the picture of my niece - so cute! She was also in a group shot.
Went to the Farmer's Market at the Ferry Building downtown this
morning! It is fabulous. I love going this time of year. The summer
produce is beautiful and fresh! If you live in San Francisco and have
never been down there, you are missing out! The website for the market
is http://www.ferryplazafarmersmarket.com/ and is where you can get information on events and the farmers selling at the market. I have a few favorites:
The first is Happy Quail Farms. They have some of the best peppers and are a wealth of knowledge about how to prepare them. My favorite are the Pimientos de Padrón
which may be small in size but large in taste! As their website states
one of the best ways to prepare them is to heat oil in a pan, place the
peppers in and add salt. I have also found that dipping them in a
little crème fraîche is delicious, like the icing on the cake!! Here
is sample of what they had today:
Another great stall to visit is Rancho Gordo
they have an amazing selection of beans! Yes I said beans. So many
varieties - most I have never heard of before. Their website has a
bunch of recipes to compliment their selection. They also have popping
corn which is quite tasty!
One of my absolute favorites is Happy Girl Kitchen.
They can all types of goodies: pickles, cherries, apricots and
tomatoes. I was told today that it looks like they might have tomato
juice in a few weeks. YEAH! I can't stand the taste of tomato juice
bought in stores. It has an over processed, metallic taste. Happy
Girl Kitchen cans their tomato juice directly from the juice left over
from their salsa production. So if tomato juice is coming soon - so is
their salsa!! And if you do pick up some goodies then make sure to
take back the jars so they can be reused.
Here is my haul from the market today:
And that is fresh basil WITH the roots that is in the large margarita glass ... mmm it smells so good.
Here are a few other pictures from the market along with two birds that tried to get some of my breakfast!
I snapped these this morning, with my lovely new iPhone.
Anyway, wanted to share these lovely morning moments I had on my
walk to work today. Two beautiful flowers and a hooker on the
corner of 17th and Folsom! Sorry, I didn't want to get too close but yes those are a lovely pair of daisy dukes,
black fishnets and red flats. I think the white sweatshirt with the red hoodie add a nice touch.
Today's mission, which was thrust upon me by my mother, is to find multiple copies of Vogue Bambini! Why would I want a child's clothing magazine you might ask? Well, my niece, Ella Kline, just so happens to be in it. So my mother being the doting grandmother that she is, wants at least four copies. After calling several stores and not having any luck, I am requesting help.
So if anyone knows of where in San Francisco I could lay my hands on several copies of this hard to find magazine I would be very grateful - and so would my mom. Ella is in the July/August 2008 edition. I believe she appears in the insert for the magazine. Wish me luck!
It has been two months since I was going to the gym regularly! My waistline has started to change again and not in the right direction!! So I got up this morning before dawn and headed off to the gym. I got up on the stair climber as usual to begin a 30 minute climb to nowhere. With only 5 minutes left to the workout the stairs started to intermittently speed up and then slow back down. Then all of a sudden, like scene out of a cartoon where a flight of stairs suddenly turn into a slide, the resistance on the stair climber gave out! The stairs quickly descended and so did I! My left foot briefly got caught under the last stair and a thin slice of skin went missing on the right leg. I walked over to the front desk and said "One of your stair climbers just threw me off and I also need a band aid!" What a great way to start the week - and a great way to start a new blog. It can only get better right?
So welcome, within these posts my physical reality will meld into a digital one. I hope to entertain, inform and enlighten. So pull up a chair and enjoy the ride!
